Tesla Glass Roof: How to Keep It Comfortable in Summer

Sonnenschutz fürs Glasdach des Tesla Model Y

The full glass roof of the Model Y and Model 3 makes the cabin bright and open. On hot days, though, you quickly notice how much the sun heats through the glass – especially in the back seats.

Why it gets warm under the glass roof

The roof glass is tinted and coated, but it still lets light and heat through. When the car stands in the sun, the cabin heats up. The air conditioning has to work harder – and that costs energy.

What really helps

  • Glass roof sunshade: A custom-fit sunshade for the front and rear roof sections blocks direct sun. It goes on and comes off in seconds.
  • Park in the shade: Sounds obvious, but it makes the biggest difference.
  • Precondition via the app: Switch it on shortly before you leave while the car is still charging – then the energy comes from the grid, not the battery.

What to look for in a sunshade

  • Matches your generation: The roof of the new Model Y differs from the 2021–2024 model. Choose the sunshade for your model year.
  • Front and rear: A set for both roof sections protects driver and rear seats.
  • Easy to remove: In winter you may want all the light back.

Our glass roof sunshades for the Model Y and Model 3 are in the Sunshades category.
